Let's take you on a culinary adventure with a simple yet flavorful dish from the heart of Japan - a Ground Beef Bowl. Grab 1 pound of 90% lean ground beef. To that, add 1/3 cup of sake, a 1/4 cup of soy sauce, and a similar measure of dashi or water. Sweeten the blend with 1.5 tablespoons of granulated sugar.

Once you've assembled your ingredients, grab a small Dutch oven or a medium-size, heavy saucepan and let's start cooking. Combine the beef, sake, soy sauce, dashi, and sugar, ensuring they are well mixed. Cook this mixture over medium-high heat. Your aim should be to break up any large lumps of beef, making sure they are evenly cooked. Let it cook for about 5 minutes.

Now, take 1/2 cup of thawed, formerly frozen English peas along with one tablespoon of freshly grated ginger. Stir these into the beef mixture. Cook this for about 4 minutes, stirring frequently, until most of the liquid has evaporated and your beef is thoroughly cooked and moist.

Now, to assemble your bowl. Distribute 5 cups of hot cooked rice evenly among 4 large bowls. Spoon a generous 1/2 cup of the beef mixture over the rice in each bowl. As a finishing touch, garnish with beni shoga, the Japanese pickled ginger or slice in a large tomato. And there you have it-- a hearty and delicious Japanese Ground Beef Bowl in no time. Enjoy!
