Renowned wine expert and co-founder of Une Femme Wines, Jen Pelka, has added a touch of sophistication to the classic cocktail snack, pigs in a blanket. This delicious finger-food is perfect for serving with champagne.

Utilizing straightforward and convenient elements to build her gourmet variation, Pelka advocates the use of frozen packaged puff pastry to keep the dish uncomplicated whilst ensuring high quality. A succulent glaze crafted from a combination of butter, brown sugar, honey, and Dijon mustard adds a unique touch. Substituting gourmet sausages for traditional hot dogs, these sausages are then sheathed in the glazed pastry and cut into bite-sized pieces.

A critical aspect of the preparation involves chilling the unbaked wrapped sausages in a refrigerator for at least 15 minutes before baking. This results in cold pastry which, once in the oven, inflates as it bakes, forming sumptuous layers that crumble satisfyingly upon biting into them.

Served alone or accompanied by a honey-mustard dip, this delightful finger-food is sure to be a hit. The ingredients include sufficient canola oil for greasing, unsalted butter, light brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, a thawed sheet of all-butter puff pastry, flaky sea salt, coarsely ground black pepper, and hot dogs or gourmet sausages of your choosing.

Begin this gourmet culinary journey by preheating your oven to 375°F while lightly oiling a large baking sheet. A glaze made of butter melted with sugar and honey over moderate heat, combined with the Dijon to cool, is next.

Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into twelve triangles. Each triangle is brushed with the glaze and seasoned with pepper, then a piece of sausage is placed at the wide end which is loosely rolled up. Once all pieces are prepared, they are brushed with egg wash, sprinkled with sea salt and pepper, and refrigerated for fifteen minutes.

Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until golden and puffed, rotating your baking sheet halfway through. Best served hot, these elevated pigs in a blanket may also be chilled and stored for an overnight bake. These delicious snack-size treats are the perfect gourmet addition to your next cocktail party.
