Looking for a tasty homecooked meal that is both hearty and easy to prepare? Look no further, we have a homely dish of BBQ beans and hot dogs that ticks all the boxes. This recipe uses a delicious sauce that combines sweet and savory flavors to give your taste buds a unique treat.

For your ingredients, make sure you have a cup of both ketchup and pure maple syrup, along with a similar amount of porter or your favorite dark ale. Additionally, gather a half-cup of molasses, Dijon mustard, and powdered mustard. To soak up all these flavors, you will need a quarter of a cup each of red wine vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, packed light brown sugars, with a teaspoon of chilli powder. For a slight twist, add half a teaspoon each of cinnamon, cayenne pepper, granulated onion, and granulated garlic. Don’t forget a generous pinch of Kosher salt, finely chopped bacon, and finely chopped onion.

Your main food items will be four 15-ounce cans of navy beans that have been rinsed and drained, and ten all-beef hot dogs, halved lengthwise and thinly sliced crosswise.

Start by combining all sauce ingredients except the salt, bacon, onion, beans, and hot dogs in a saucepan. Stir while heating until a boiling point, whist to dissolve the sugar. Allow the concoction to simmer on moderately low heat until reduced by a third - this should take roughly 20 minutes. After it's reduced, add salt to taste.

The next step is prepping your oven, preheat to 325°. In a large enameled cast-iron casserole, cook your chopped bacon over moderate heat while stirring. Once the fat renders - about 5 minutes - add the finely chopped onion, and cook until it softens, which should be another 8 minutes.

Now, to complete the dish, stir in the navy beans, sliced hot dogs, and your previously prepared sauce. Partially cover the casserole and bake for 1 hour, to achieve that perfect glazed look on the beans. Add some salt to taste, and voila – a tasty, homecooked favorite that’s as delicious as it is satisfying.
