Chill out with Boozy Espresso Martini Pops
- Jun 23, 2025
Espresso Martini Pops are frozen treats made from cold brew coffee, coffee liqueur, vodka, and simple syrup. The result is a balance of robust coffee flavor and a sweet note, inspired by the popular Espresso Martini cocktail.
The idea was to convert the much-beloved cocktail, that comes with a coffee punch and typically served in a martini glass, into an icy hand-held delicacy. The classic ingredients of an Espresso Martini are utilized in this creation, but the proportions have been altered slightly for the freeze-ready version.
Given that alcohol does not freeze, it's important to note that the main ingredient of these pops is a base of cold brew coffee with just enough coffee liqueur and vodka to retain that distinctive alcoholic edge. Because vodka holds a higher alcohol by volume (ABV), a larger proportion of cold brew is mixed in to lower the total ABV of the blend - allowing it to solidify perfectly into ice pop molds.
The unique aspect of this recipe is its reliance on cold brew coffee for its pronounced coffee taste and gentler acidity, setting it apart from traditional brewed coffee or espresso. Since an Espresso Martini is usually shaken and served straight up, there's no requirement for the creamy texture of an espresso in the frozen version - making cold brew an ideal coffee base.
Preparation for the Espresso Martini Pops, however, requires some patience as a complete 12-hour cycle is needed for the pops to freeze solid. The inclusion of alcohol in the recipe means the freezing process can be a touch slower than usual. To ensure the perfect consistency, it's recommended to begin the process with thoroughly chilled ingredients.
Here's how to brew-up this coffee-flavored treat: In a large measuring cup with an easy-pour spout, whisk together one cup plus three tablespoons of cold brew coffee, 1.5 ounces of coffee liqueur, 1.5 ounces of simple syrup, and 1.5 ounces of vodka. Next, pour the mixture evenly into six 3-ounce ice-pop molds (about six tablespoons for each one). After covering with mold lids, insert the ice-pop sticks and set to freeze until solid, which should be at least 12 hours. Enjoy your frozen spin on the Espresso Martini!
