Pumpkin Spice Hoopla: The Beloved Flavor is Everywhere This Autumn
- Aug 29, 2025
As autumn leaves begin falling, many American shoppers are getting into the festive mood by turning to products infused with the delicious aroma of pumpkin spice. From flavored creamers to seasonal cookies, grocery carts across the nation are filling up with the intoxicating taste of fall.
Instacart, a prominent grocery delivery platform, confirms this trend with its annual report on pumpkin-spice shopping habits. The data shows a whopping 1,459% surge in the sales of pumpkin spice creamers during the fall season compared to the rest of the year.
The in-demand seasonal sip extends to plant-based versions too. Brands such as Planet Oats and Califia Farms are among the crowd favorites, gaining significant popularity among shoppers. However, the craze for pumpkin spice doesn't limit to creamer lovers.
Besides creamers, pumpkin-spiced Greek and Icelandic yogurts, almond milk, oat milk, and cookies are also seeing a rise in demand as soon as autumn hits. According to the Instacart data report, all these products form a crucial part of the pumpkin-spice favorites.
Instacart trends analyst, Alex Orellana, explained the phenomenon, "Pumpkin spice has become more than just a flavor. It's tied to the season and nostalgia. It sparks anticipation in people who eagerly await its annual return, often showing up sooner each year. The diversity and innovation in pumpkin-spiced products, from things like pretzels to baby food, keep it fresh and exciting."
Other fall favorite flavors, however, aren't far behind in the race. Sweet cream rapidly rises as the favored creamer flavor, with coffee cake and caramel following closely. Amaretto, a blend of honey and almond flavors, is also gaining traction among the consumers.
But Americana's love for flavored creamers isn’t unanimous. Some regional variations exist as people in Oregon, Arizona, and Hawaii find a liking for coconut-flavored creamers. On the other hand, shoppers from the Carolinas relish the sweet cream variants, and Massachusetts residents prefer the syrupy coffee cake creamers.
"Summerween," - a term denoting the early appearance of fall products, was more real than ever this year. Big brands like Dunkin and Nudpods launched their grocery creamers quite early in the season while Starbucks set the ball rolling with its annual Pumpkin Spice Latte rollout in late August.
According to Instacart's data, 2024 saw an early spike in pumpkin spice products around September 17, the earliest since 2021, outlining the American affection for the pumpkin spice flavor, maybe even before summer winds down. But don't worry if you're not ready for pumpkin spice when the temperatures are still in the mid-80s - a second spike comes around late November when Americans commonly purchase pumpkin pies and sweet potato casseroles.
