The Margarita, an enduring cocktail favorite, continues to captivate the global audience with its timeless blend of tequila, fresh lime juice, and orange liqueur. Its simple yet refreshing tangy profile makes it a popular choice, and also serves as a base for cocktail lovers to experiment and innovate. Among such twists on the classic, the Grilled Margarita emerges excitingly delightful.

By playing with the traditional elements of the Margarita, the Grilled Margarita imparts a fresh spin. It includes grilled citrus fruits to the recipe, inducing smoky flavors alongside a spicy, sweet edge from a chili-lime salt garnish, designed to serve four.

There are no restrictions on what citrus fruits to stake on the grill - navel oranges, grapefruits, tangerines, or even satsumas can each have their moment to shine. Once taken to the grill, cut-side down, the intense heat will work its magic and lightly char the citrus fruits, unlocking complex, bittersweet notes by caramelizing the fruits' natural sugars. Furthermore, grilling the fruits helps to elevate the flavors, bringing out a colourful array of sweetness and acidity.)

As a vital component of a classic Margarita, lime juice's high acidity nicely offsets the sweetness from the other citrus choices. A discreet dash of fine sea salt on the charred fruit enhances their savory appeal. Regarding the choice of alcohol, a blanco tequila's herbaceous kick complements the grilled citruses beautifully, although a fuller-bodied reposado tequila or a smoky mezcal can also harmonize with the robust flavors.

Rimming the glass with chili-lime salt adds a final touch of warmth, rounding off this unique cocktail's medley.

Two large navel oranges, a grapefruit, a tangerine or satsuma, is required for this flavorsome recipe, alongside a pinch of fine sea salt. While blanco tequila enhances the profile, Cointreau, lime juice, and charred citrus juice provide additional depth and complexity, topped with the fiery chili-lime salt for garnish.

To start the process, grill the citrus fruits, then allow them to cool before juicing, reserving a few for garnish. Stir in a pinch of salt to the charred citrus juices. Prep the glass by coating the rim with lime juice and chili-lime salt. In an ice-filled shaker, mix the tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, and charred citrus juice, shake briskly until nicely chilled.
