Take Sip on the Mezcaletti: A Modern Cocktail Twist
- Jul 17, 2026
Meet the Mezcaletti, a contemporary, masterfully blended cocktail which introduces a new dynamic to the beloved M&M shot – a cherished mix among bartenders due to its surprisingly harmonious fusion of smoke and somewhat bitter herbs. The innovative recipe is attributed to mixologist Richard Boccato, contributing a fresh and complex narrative to the ever-evolving world of cocktails.
The Mezcaletti reimagines the M&M shot by substituting Amaro Montenegro with the high-alcohol, fuller-bodied Amaro Meletti and the addition of a few dashes of orange bitters. This concoction metamorphosizes the original simple duo into an indulgent, spirit-centric, leisurely sip brimming with depth and character.
Differentiating itself from the typically robust bitterness found in many amari, Meletti is rather mild and well-rounded, providing dark chocolate, caramel, anise, cinnamon, clove, saffron, and sweet citrus notes. Such moderate bitterness cradles the rich smokiness and charred agave profile of mezcal, making for a structured beverage that maintains lightness without becoming cloyingly sweet.
A slight hint of orange bitters not only emphasizes the citrusy and spiced undertones of the amaro but proffers a soft aromatic brightness. By rounding it off with expressed lemon oils, the cocktail retains a clean, crisp balance, allowing the agave-focused mezcat and the botanically complex Meletti to be the stars of the glass, shining with equal brilliance.
One portion of mezcal, Amaro Meletti, and two dashes of orange bitters come together harmoniously in a rocks glass, cradling a large ice cube. Give the mixture a gentle stir about 10-15 times until it's adequately chilled and combined. To finish off, garnish the drink with a twist of lemon. Savor every sip of this modern, masterfully created cocktail.
